( 1637, Inglaterra–5 ene. 1710/11, Wethersfield, Conn.).

Escritora colonial anglonorteamericana. Fue hija del propietario original de Lancaster, Mass., donde vivió con su marido, ministro protestante, y sus cuatro hijos. Cuando los indios arrasaron el asentamiento, en 1676, la capturaron y la mantuvieron como rehén durante 11 semanas. Rescatada, se trasladó a Connecticut con su marido y dos de sus hijos que sobrevivieron. La narración del su cautiverio, titulada The Soveraignty & Goodness of God, Together with the Faithfulness of His Promises Displayed; Being a Narrative of the Captivity and Restauration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson [La soberanía y bondad de Dios, junto con la fidelidad de sus promesas demostrada; Narración del cautiverio y restauración de Mrs Mary Rowlandson] y publicada en 1682, gozó de popularidad en las colonias y en Londres.
